2017 has been an awesome year for me in terms of DJing. I got the chance to play sets in a few of my favorite cities, drop a few mixes, curate events in awesome spaces, and make new friends in new regions across the DJ scene. Over the next few days I will list of some of my favorite moments of the year. Check them out below.
10. Bodega x Polo 1992 Stadium Event at Series by Bodega
Polo x Bodega. Two of my favorite brands came together to show off a collection of the 1992 Polo Stadium Capsule to promote the re-release of the collection. This was a small event but I got to rock a timeless set that paid tribute to the Golden Era of hip hop where artists frequently donned the work of the heralded sportswear brand. Queens based rapper and huge Polo afficianado Meyhem Lauren also made a guest appearance. Visual courtesy of Ricky Orng
9. The Relay Collaboration w/ The Arena
Our second annual multi city collaboration with our friends and legendary event gods from Brooklyn, The Arena. This was our second edition of The Relay, which falls every year on Patriot's Day weekend. The parties took place at The Paper Box in Brooklyn, NY and at Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge, Ma and featured sets from DJ Big Bear, Just Dimy, Tha Yellow R. Kel, and myself. We love doing this event every year because it brings friends from both cities together to have a great time in each place. Photos courtesy of Samson Debela and Owen Angonte
8. The Juice Boston W/ DJ Dahi
Another one of my favorite moments of 2017 was Good Sport Creative's east coast edition of their LA Based party The Juice. This event featured sets from Yung Towfu, Big Bear, myself and critically acclaimed producer DJ Dahi. Dahi has produced records for many of my favorite artists including Dom Kennedy, Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla Sign, Travis Scott, and Lupe Fiasco. The party was really dope and it was an honor to play with Dahi.
7. Valentine's Day Drop of Feelings: A Mix for All The Feels w/ DJ Big Bear
This year for Valentine's Day, DJ Big Bear and myself decided to drop a mix dedicated to all of the lovers of the world. This mix was really fun to put together, because we aimed to put out a mix that could incorporate love songs, while still keeping an energetic and fun vibe. Most love mixes are slower, so we wanted to go away from that. If you still have the love jones during the holiday season, check out "Feelings: A Mix for All The Feels" below:
6. B2B Set w/ DJ Big Bear at 143 in Los Angeles
Earlier this year, I got the opportunity to play a back to back set w/ DJ Big Bear at 143, one of LA's dopest parties at the Echoplex in Echo Park. February's edition included sets from 143 Residents Partytime, Siik and Them Jeans, as well as special guests Kittens and Promnite form the Athletixx crew. Check out the recap here courtesy of Kyle Reyes and the 143 crew.
5. Dropping Full Time: A Mix to Build to
It got to a certain point where I felt that I was just existing in my professional career. I was constantly running away from the idea of DJing and doing creative things full time. A good job, with good benefits can keep us at a stable place in certain aspects of life, and drive is insane in others. I decided to stop running from the idea of creating on a full time basis and just did it. To cement this decision I put together Full Time: A Mix to Build To, as a reminder to constantly keep going, keep building and keep creating. Check out the mix below.
